You might be a little concerned and most likely confused because you thought I was on an art trip and not attending Marine Training Boot camp *hoorah!* You're right. I didn't sign up for some intense physical exercise, I didn't even work out at the gym today. Nope, I'm tired because I painted all day. Yep. Go ahead, roll your eyes, it's okay.
I know 'painting' doesn't sound that tiring, and when I think about it, it doesn't sound very tiring either- but somewhere between 8am and now, my gas tank of energy ran dry. I'm barely running off of the fumes now. It's a good thing that I made popcorn on the stove and smothered it in real butter- because I'm pretty sure it saved my life.
Painting all day is like cramming for an exam all day- it's all mental. That's why I'm bushed. Eight hours of arting is a lot of analyzing and focus, not to mention constantly thinking and comparing colors, values, shapes... you get the idea.
Don't get me wrong, I am not complaining one bit. I love this. This tired feeling is a sign of success- it means that I worked today and did something productive. I can't even begin to explain how happy I feel. Two new paintings sit drying in the studio and I sit eating in the kitchen- it's all good.
The alarm clock went off at 7 this morning as planned- and I stuck to my schedule like a good little girl. I entered the studio at 8, gathered my stuff and headed out into the field to paint. The wind and cold tore through my jacket and three layers of clothing, but I hardly noticed how cold I got until I came inside two hours later- frozen like a little popsicle- it took all afternoon and several cups of hot tea to thaw me out.
The afternoon ticked by with me in the studio, working on one painting, listening to music, and silently appreciating the Icelandic landscape.
And now I'm tired. You see, no running was involved, no push ups, sit ups, burpees, not even a heated game of Pickle Ball was played. I had better get used to this kind of regimen since I plan on doing this day-in and day-out for the next 5 months. Just the thought of it makes me think I'd better start another batch of buttery popcorn to soothe my aching mind.
Here are some visual goodies for you:
Who's this person with a bandana and sunglasses on in order to keep the flies away???
It's ME! (my nose had to stay out of the bandana otherwise my sunglasses would fog-up)
First painting done today
Short little video. I ended up NOT painting the stream.
